Headspace scents are the scents surrounding living plants. What sound waves are to us, volatile molecules are to the plant kingdom. They can communicate, warn, protect, defend, attract and even deceive. One can say that smelling these headspace scents is almost like listening to plants. Every headspace scent is unique and has evolved over billions of years. Just like studying the morphology of a plant or the behaviour of an animal, the scientific analysis of headspace scents can tell us a lot about its ecology, evolution and biology.
